Before you
can be successful in building dog houses, you will need to get your
hands on some good plans for
2012
building a dog house. There are a number of sources for dog house
plans. If you like, you can even get
free dog house plans
off the internet. What I
have found, is that most of these plans aren’t that great. If you’re
willing to spend a few bucks, you can find some really good plans on the
internet. For example, if
you are interested in building an
insulated dog house with a
porch, here is a 47 page
how to build a dog
house step-by-step guide.
Once you
have obtained a good set of plans, make sure you have the appropriate
tools and all of the materials you will need to complete your project.
If you have good
dog house blueprints,
they will probably list all of the building materials you will need.
Read through
the
dog house plans
completely before you begin construction.
Get all your materials laid out in a way, so you can construct
each area of the doghouse as your plans spell out.
It’s important to follow each step in the order it is laid out,
in its detailed description.
Hopefully there are also some illustrations in the plans for you to
follow. If you aren’t very experienced in doing woodworking projects,
you will find the illustrations very helpful.
Sometimes,
the plans will have you cut and assemble various parts of the dog house
first, and then put them all together.
If you shingle your roof, make sure to use the correct drip edge
around the edge of your roof. This will keep the roof from getting water
inside the board around the edge of the roof.
Also, use a ridge cap of shingles to make sure the roof doesn’t
leak. A leak causes two
problems. First of all, it gets your best friend wet. Secondly, it may
cause rot in the dog house. You want this doghouse to last a long time,
and it should if it is constructed correctly.
Make sure
that you use pressure treated wood in all areas that will have contact
with the ground. If you don’t, your dog house will experience rot in its
foundation, which will cause you grief.
